Report a death on a Nedbank home loan

Nedbank runs a separate deceased estates helpdesk mailbox for each account type. If the deceased had several kinds of accounts, email each relevant helpdesk:

Documents Nedbank asks for

Nedbank asks for certified copies of these documents. Certification must be done by a commissioner of oaths: a police station, any Nedbank branch or an attorney.

  • The deceased’s ID and death certificate
  • The executor’s ID
  • The power of attorney holder’s ID, if applicable
  • The letter of executorship or letter of authority
  • The estate bank statement
  • The indemnity form
  • The executor’s signed instructions

For MFC vehicle accounts, Nedbank also needs proof of comprehensive insurance and where the vehicle is parked.

What to do, step by step

  • Obtain the death certificate from Home Affairs.
  • Report the death to the Master of the High Court. Nedbank’s home loans brochure notes this must be done within 14 days.
  • Appoint an executor, or have one appointed.
  • Have the documents listed above certified.
  • Email the helpdesk for each account type: home loans, MFC, transactional or unsecured.

For home loans, you can hand the documents in at any Nedbank branch for transmission to Home Loans Deceased Estates at branch 9961, deliver them to Nedbank Deceased Estates, Third Floor, Nedbank Park I, 6 Press Avenue, Selby Ext 15, 2092 Johannesburg, or post them to Nedbank Deceased Estates Home Loans, PO Box 1144, Johannesburg, 2000.

A surviving spouse or heir can apply for a section 45 or 57 substitution of debtor endorsement on the home loan, subject to credit approval and the executor’s permission.
