NuDebt is a debt collection agency, not a debt counselling firm. That distinction matters before you phone: it is engaged by credit providers to collect from you, not appointed by you to negotiate on your behalf.

Office hours are Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 18:00. NuDebt publishes a Pay Your Debt section on its own site with payment options and a payment gateway, which is the route it prefers over telephone arrangements.

If NuDebt is calling you

• Ask which credit provider it is collecting for, and for the account number with that provider. A collection agency acts for a client, and you are entitled to know which one.
• Ask for the amount claimed to be broken into capital, interest and fees. Collection charges are capped by law and cannot exceed the limits in the National Credit Act.
• Do not acknowledge a debt you do not recognise. Acknowledging it can restart the prescription clock on a debt that had run out.

If the debt is genuinely yours, a written arrangement is worth more than a verbal one. Get the terms in writing before the first payment and keep every proof of payment.

If you are the creditor

NuDebt sells itself to businesses rather than to consumers, offering call centre collections, tech collections, business collections, legal services and collections, accounts receivable management and a payment gateway. Commercial enquiries go to the same numbers.

Where to complain

• Debt collectors are regulated by the Council for Debt Collectors under the Debt Collectors Act. A collector or agency must be registered with it, and you can ask for the registration number.
• Harassment, calls at unreasonable hours, or contact with your employer or family about your debt are grounds for a complaint to that council.
• A dispute about the underlying credit agreement rather than the collection goes to the National Financial Ombud Scheme on 0860 800 900, which absorbed the Credit Ombud.
