Calling Unifi

Unifi lists one phone number for South Africa, 021 110 0600, which it also writes as 021 11 00 600. Its FAQs say to call this number 24/7 if you are worried about a missed payment, and to call it immediately to report possible fraud if anyone claiming to be Unifi asks you for an upfront fee: Unifi says it has never charged upfront fees and never will. The number starts with 021, a Cape Town landline code, so it is charged as a normal call.

Unifi email address

Unifi’s email address is clientcare@za.unifi.credit, with “za” as part of the domain. Use it for general queries, and email your proof of payment to it once you have paid your account. If your Unifi account is being handled by Colecta, Unifi’s FAQs say to send your proof of payment to support@colecta.co.za instead. Type the address carefully: Unifi’s addresses end in unifi.credit, so be wary of any “Unifi” email from a different domain.

My Unifi: application status and balance

Sign in to My Unifi on unifi.credit to check how your application is doing and to see the balance on your accounts. Unifi says that if you chose Superfast, its automatic bank statement sharing option, your cash should reflect within a few hours, while applications with manually uploaded or emailed documents can take up to 24 hours. You can switch to Superfast by signing in, clicking “Upload” and choosing Superfast. Unifi confirms loan approval by email.

Unifi loans: who qualifies

Unifi’s website offers loans of up to R12,000 for new applicants, and up to R24,000 for returning clients who repay, with repayment terms from 3 to 9 months and the option to settle early. To qualify, Unifi says you must be a South African citizen over 20, formally employed, earn a monthly salary paid into a bank account, and bank with ABSA, FNB, Standard Bank, Capitec, Nedbank, African Bank or TymeBank. Unifi does not help debt review or insolvent clients, does not consolidate loans, and currently only serves monthly earners. It says blacklisted applicants can still apply, and that it has offered loans since 2006. Unifi is a registered credit provider, NCRCP4849.

Loan costs, DebiCheck and limit increases

Unifi’s loan calculator shows an example R8,000 loan over 6 months with a R995 initiation fee, a R69 monthly fee, 3% monthly interest and a monthly repayment of R1,730, and it states a minimum APR of 95.9% and a maximum of 121.1%, with all fees VAT inclusive. Unifi asks you to approve a DebiCheck early in the application and promises to cancel it immediately if the loan is not approved or you change your mind. Unifi says repeat clients with good payment histories can qualify for higher limits over time, and that it will let you know when your limit goes up.

Payments, missed payments and settling early

  • Debit orders: Unifi collects repayments through a DebiCheck mandate and advises against cancelling it, because cancelling can lead to missed payments, extra fees and a negative credit record.
  • Account not debited: call 021 110 0600 or email clientcare@za.unifi.credit so Unifi can help you avoid a missed payment; you can also make a manual payment.
  • Missed payment: Unifi says a missed payment puts your account in arrears and affects your credit record, so contact it as soon as possible.
  • Settling early: you can settle at any time and save on interest; contact Unifi and it will guide you through the process.
  • Changing bank details: update them up to 3 business days before your scheduled salary payment. For security, Unifi only pays loans into the account where your salary is paid.
