DMC Debt Management is a South African debt management and collections business. If DMC has contacted you, the most useful things to establish are who they are registered with and what they may lawfully do – both are set out below. The contact routes were read from the DMC website on 31 August 2026.

Official contact channels

DMC publishes both numbers on its site without labelling which handles what, so state your account reference and the reason for your call at the outset. Its own marketing points people to DMCOnline as the alternative to telephone contact, where you can view balances and make payments without speaking to anyone – which many people dealing with a collector prefer.

What this organisation provides

DMC manages and collects consumer debt, and publishes customer support, payment methods, statements and letters, DebiCheck, and credit bureau information as its main service areas.

Its registrations are published in full, and they matter:

Registration with the Council for Debt Collectors is the one to note. Debt collectors in South Africa must be registered with that Council, and it has a complaints and disciplinary process. A caller demanding payment who cannot give you a Council registration number should not be paid.

Before contacting DMC, have the reference number from the letter or SMS, your identity number, and if you dispute the debt, whatever you hold about the original account – statements, the original credit agreement, or proof of payment.

Address and operating information

DMC does not publish a street address for customer visits or call centre operating hours on its site, directing customers to the telephone numbers, WhatsApp and the DMCOnline portal instead. The 0860 and 0861 prefixes are national share-call numbers charged at the operator rate rather than as local calls.

Two rights are worth knowing before you agree to anything. You may ask for proof of the debt – what it is for, the original creditor, and how the balance was calculated – and a collector should provide it. And a debt may have prescribed: most consumer debts prescribe after three years without acknowledgement or payment, and a prescribed debt may not be collected. Acknowledging the debt or making even a small payment can restart that clock, so establish the position before you pay anything on an old account.

Support and escalation routes

Raise a dispute with DMC directly first, in writing, quoting the reference from the correspondence, and keep a copy. Ask for the response in writing too.

If it is not resolved, three separate bodies have jurisdiction depending on the complaint:

Where the complaint is about an incorrect listing on your credit record, take it up with the credit bureau as well – you are entitled to one free credit report a year and to dispute an entry on it at no charge.
