Getting on air, and getting music played
- The studio line is the number to use during a live show — for a request, a competition, or to take part in a talk segment.
- WhatsApp is better for anything that is not time-critical, because a studio line during a live broadcast is busy by definition.
- The site runs a Submit Music route for artists. Sending tracks to the studio line will not get them to the music scheduler.
What a community station is, and what it is not
EK FM is licensed as a community broadcaster, which is a specific category under the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa rather than a description. A community station is non-profit, must be controlled by the community it serves, and is licensed for a defined coverage area — in this case the far eastern parts of Ekurhuleni. That is why the signal does not reach the whole of Gauteng and why the station’s programming leans towards local leaders, activists, artists and entrepreneurs rather than national playlists.
