Emalahleni has two Spec-Savers stores listed. The other is Jumbo Mall, Shop 49, Cnr Main Street and the R544, Stasiepark, Blesboklaagte, on 013 591 0174. If Highveld Mall is fully booked for an eye test, that is the nearest alternative.

Bank City is in the Johannesburg CBD, so it suits people working in town rather than shoppers driving in. It lists two lines, which is worth knowing when the first rings unanswered over lunchtime.

Several centres have more than one Spec-Savers, Cresta among them, so check the shop number on the province list before you walk to the wrong end of the mall.
Finding any other store
Spec-Savers publishes its store list by province rather than as one long directory. The province pages on specsavers.co.za carry every store’s shop number, street address and phone number, and there are separate lists for the hearing, or audiology, stores:
- Optometry stores: specsavers.co.za/stores/ plus the province, for example /stores/gauteng or /stores/mpumalanga.
- Hearing stores: specsavers.co.za/stores/hearing/ plus the province.
- Outside South Africa: separate lists for Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
Stores are franchised, so the phone number on the province page is the one that reaches the optometrist, not a national queue. Use the store number for bookings, repairs, collections and anything about work already done.
What the call centre can help with
- Online orders placed through the website, including click and collect for contact lenses.
- Questions about medical aid claims and the Spec-Savers eye care and hearing accounts.
- Payment options, warranty options, loyalty partners and the returns policy, all of which are set out on the site.
- Booking an eye test or a hearing test, if you would rather not phone the store.
- Franchise, graduate programme and audiology sign-up enquiries, which have their own pages.
Spec-Savers also states that it is a member of the MediWallet medical account network. Customer services is closed at weekends and on public holidays, so a Saturday query has to go to the store.
Before you go in
- Phone the store rather than the call centre to book, because the optometrist’s diary sits in the store.
- Take your medical aid card and your last prescription if you have one, since the store claims against the scheme directly.
- For an online order, quote the order number when you phone 0860 766 930, not the store.
- Hearing tests are done at the audiology stores, which are a shorter list than the optometry ones.
