OptiPlan is Spec-Savers 24-month spectacle payment plan. It is not a medical aid, not an insurance product and not a separate company, which is why searching for an OptiPlan call centre gets you nowhere: it is administered by Spec-Savers and reached on the Spec-Savers line.

- Your own store is the fastest route for anything about an existing contract, since the paperwork sits there
- Take your identity document and proof of income to sign up, because the plan is credit-assessed
How the plan works
- You buy an eye examination, a frame and lenses, and the total invoice is divided over 24 months
- A marginal monthly admin fee is added on top of that division, so the monthly figure is slightly more than the invoice divided by 24
- It includes a free spectacle warranty for the first 24 months
- At renewal you can upgrade to a new frame
- Sign-up is subject to credit approval. It is a credit agreement, so it is assessed like one and appears on your credit record
Two conditions that catch people
- OptiPlan is for cash payments only and does not qualify on medical aid. If you intend to claim the spectacles from a scheme, this plan is not the route
- You cannot split it: the plan applies to the purchase, so a medical-aid-funded pair and an OptiPlan pair are separate transactions
- As a credit agreement it falls under the National Credit Act, so you are entitled to a pre-agreement quote showing the admin fee and the total you will repay. Ask for it before signing
- Missing instalments has the same consequences as any other credit agreement, including a listing
Other things called Optiplan
- There is an unrelated Optiplan filing and storage business in Pretoria. Its domain resolves but the site does not respond, so no number for it is published here
- A separate Optiplan (Pty) Ltd is registered in Sandton, and Optiplan is also a product brand sold by online retailers
- A German company at optiplan.eu, in fibre-reinforced plastics, is not connected to any of the South African ones
