Central Johannesburg TVET College, usually shortened to CJC, runs seven campuses across Johannesburg behind a single switchboard. There is one number for all of them and the campus you want is reached by extension rather than by a direct line, so knowing the extension before you dial is the difference between one call and three transfers. Exam queries work the other way around: each campus has its own mailbox and the switchboard cannot answer them.

Official contact channels

One warning before you send anything. The campus panels on the college contact page repeat an address ending in cjc.edu.co.za, with an extra co in the middle. That is a typing error for cjc.edu.za and mail sent to it will not arrive. Every working address on this page ends in cjc.edu.za.

Admissions and student support

The college publishes separate application guidance for local South African students and for international or foreign students, and admission and registration queries both go to [email protected] rather than to the general enquiries address. Applying and registering are treated as two steps, so an accepted application is not a place on a course until registration is completed.

Three separate money mailboxes are published, and which one you use matters because they are staffed separately. General college finance, student finance and NSFAS each have their own address. A bursary question sent to the general finance address will usually be forwarded rather than answered, which costs a day or two at exactly the point in the year when that matters most.

Exam queries are handled per campus, not centrally. Use the mailbox for the campus where you are registered:

Campus and address information

Only the Parktown main campus carries a full street address on the college contact page. The other six are listed by suburb alone, so plan a visit from the campus page rather than from the contact page. Smit Street is the one campus with no extension published at all, which means dialling the switchboard and asking for it by name.

Because every campus shares the 011 351 6000 switchboard, the extension is the only thing that distinguishes them by phone. Extensions in the 5000 range belong to the satellite campuses and 6000 reaches Parktown, which is also where central administration sits.

Escalation routes

Work upward through the college first. The campus handles the day to day, the exam or registration mailbox handles the specific matter, and [email protected] is the general route when a campus has stopped responding. Keep the reference from the first attempt, because it is the first thing you will be asked for.

CJC is a public TVET college and falls under the Department of Higher Education and Training, so an unresolved complaint escalates out of the college to the department on 0800 87 2222 or at [email protected]. The department also runs a career helpline on 086 999 0123, which answers questions about what to study and where rather than complaints about a college.

Funding is the one area where the college is not the decision maker. NSFAS decides bursary applications and outcomes itself, and the college NSFAS mailbox can confirm what it has submitted and what its records show, but it cannot overturn a decision. A dispute about an outcome belongs with NSFAS, while a dispute about what the college submitted belongs with the college.
