Credit Management is the Vaal University of Technology department that deals with student accounts in arrears. It matters at registration time, because a returning student who owes the university cannot continue with registration until Credit Management has approved an arrangement.

Official contact channels

The department publishes three different numbers for three different stages, so call the one that matches where your account actually is. An account that has been handed over is no longer being worked by the ordinary overdue desk, and calling the overdue numbers about it wastes a queue.

Services and responsibilities

Credit Management approves payment arrangements on outstanding tuition fees, manages overdue student accounts, and handles accounts that have been handed over for collection. It is also the department that releases the block preventing a student with a debt from registering for the next year. It does not set fee levels or award bursaries, which sit with the fees office and with financial aid and bursaries respectively, so a question about the amount charged or about NSFAS funding belongs elsewhere.

Office and address information

Vaal University of Technology, Andries Potgieter Boulevard, Vanderbijlpark, 1911, postal address Private Bag X021. One practical point matters more than the address here: the department replies to the VUT student email address, not to a private address. Students are required to activate their VUT email and their ITS iEnabler profile and to keep their contact details current, so if you have never activated the student mailbox you will not see the outcome of your own arrangement.

Applications and escalation

To apply for an arrangement, download the Deed of Suretyship form and the payment arrangement form from the Credit Management page, upload both with the supporting documents on the student iEnabler portal, then email [email protected] to confirm the upload. The relevant staff reply to your VUT student email with the progress status. Approval is not automatic and the university registration process guidelines have to be followed, so submit well before registration rather than on the day.

If the matter is unresolved, escalate on 016 950 9378. Beyond the university, maladministration by a public institution can be taken to the Public Protector. If your account has been handed to an external debt collector and your complaint is about that collector conduct, the correct regulator is the Council for Debt Collectors rather than the National Credit Regulator, which is a common mistake.
