VUT Finance Contact Details
All Education contactsComplaints & escalation
For VUT finance matters, call the student contact centre on 0861 861 888. Vaal University of Technology publishes a student contact centre number alongside separate general and admissions numbers, and fee and financial aid queries go through the student channels rather than a dedicated finance switchboard. VUT does not publish a finance-department-only telephone number on its contact page: student fees, financial aid and credit management are listed as student services, and the student contact centre is the published entry point.

What to have ready when you call about fees
Have your student number ready. It identifies you across registration, fees and results, and almost nothing can be actioned without it. For a financial aid query, have the reference for the funding application as well, since NSFAS and institutional bursaries are tracked separately from the fee account.
Check the student fees guide before calling. VUT publishes one, and a large share of finance queries concern fee structures and payment deadlines that are documented there.
How to get a fee query answered
VUT publishes several numbers with different scopes: a national-rate student contact centre, a Vanderbijlpark switchboard, and direct admission lines. The 0861 number is the one intended for general student use; the 016 numbers reach the campus directly.
Start with the student self-service portal for statements and balances. If the matter needs a person, call the student contact centre and say clearly that the query concerns fees, financial aid or credit management, so it is routed to the right team rather than to admissions.
Where a payment has been made but not reflected, have the proof of payment and the reference used, since misallocated payments are usually traced by reference rather than by name.
Fees, funding and deadlines
Fee accounts and funding applications are held on separate systems, so a NSFAS or bursary reference will not resolve a fee-account query and vice versa. Quote both if the matter spans the two.
Time matters on fee queries. Registration, results release and graduation are all gated on the fee account being in order, so a dispute raised close to one of those deadlines is far harder to resolve in time than the same dispute raised weeks earlier. Ask for a reference number and keep written confirmation of any arrangement about fees; verbal assurances about deadlines are difficult to rely on later.
If an institutional matter remains unresolved after VUT’s internal processes, the Council on Higher Education is the statutory quality council for higher education in South Africa, and the Department of Higher Education and Training is the responsible department. NSFAS funding decisions are appealed to NSFAS rather than to the university.
