The FSCA unclaimed benefits toll-free number is 0800 20 3722, and you can email your ID number to Pensions.UBmemberID@FSCA.co.za or SMS it to 30913. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) is South Africa’s market conduct regulator, and it keeps a central database of unclaimed retirement benefits with its own search, enquiry channels and appointment booking.
The FSCA does not pay benefits. When it finds a match, it gives you the contact details of the fund or administrator, and you claim from the fund. For the FSCA’s other numbers, see the main FSCA contact details page.

Official FSCA unclaimed benefits route
Under the Pension Funds Act, an unclaimed benefit is any lump sum or pension due to a fund member or beneficiary that has gone unclaimed for a period of time. The FSCA says former members of a South African retirement fund, as far back as 1981, may still be owed a benefit that their fund could not pay because it could not contact them.
You can check in several ways:
- Online: search at fsca.co.za/Unclaimed-Benefits-Search/.
- Phone: call 0800 20 3722 toll-free.
- Email: send your ID number to Pensions.UBmemberID@FSCA.co.za, or send a general request to Pensions.UBQuery@FSCA.co.za.
- SMS: send your ID number to 30913, or a general request to 30766.
- Fax: submissions go to 086 578 1183.
- In person: book an appointment online and visit River Walk Office Park, Block B, 41 Matroosberg Road, Ashlea Gardens, Pretoria.

What you need before contacting the FSCA
The FSCA search asks for your name, surname, ID number, the fund name and your employer, so have these ready. If you use the online enquiry form, the supporting documents it lists include your ID or passport, a death certificate, a payslip, a fund benefit statement, earlier correspondence, a record of service and, for mining, the “Makhulu skop” clock card. Uploads can be up to 5 MB each, in PDF, PNG or JPEG format.
If you are enquiring for someone else, you must confirm consent on the form and upload supporting documents such as an ID and a death or marriage certificate.

- Search the FSCA unclaimed benefits database online with your name, surname, ID number, fund name and employer.
- Or send your ID number to Pensions.UBmemberID@FSCA.co.za or by SMS to 30913. General requests go to Pensions.UBQuery@FSCA.co.za or SMS 30766.
- Or call 0800 20 3722 toll-free, or book an appointment and walk in at River Walk Office Park, Block B, Ashlea Gardens.
- If the FSCA finds a match, contact the fund or administrator it names and follow the fund’s normal claims process.
Escalation route
The FSCA does not publish a separate escalation line for unclaimed benefits. If the dedicated channels do not help, call the FSCA switchboard on +27 12 428 8000. Remember that the FSCA only provides the fund’s contact details: the claim itself is paid by the fund, so any dispute about the payout is taken up with the fund first.
