Legitimate ways to spend less

There are several, and they are cheaper than the risk.

• Buy second-hand, but check the edition and the ISBN, since prescribed lists change and page numbering with them.
• Check whether an access code is required. A used copy usually has one already redeemed, which makes the online component useless.
• Use the library’s short-loan or reserve collection, which exists for prescribed titles.
• Ask about legitimate digital editions, which are frequently cheaper than print.

The second-hand textbook scam

Every February, hard-to-find prescribed titles are listed below market price by sellers who take an EFT and disappear. Meet in person on campus and pay on collection, or pay by a method with a dispute route.
