Johannesburg Magistrate Court is one of the few courts in the country that publishes a separate Family Court number alongside its switchboard.

Services and responsibilities

The court is the main seat of the Johannesburg magisterial district, administering sub district offices including Randburg, Lenasia, Roodepoort and Soweto. It also sits at Newlands.

Office and address information

The court is at 26 Fox Street, on the corner of Fox and Ntembi Piliso Street, Johannesburg, 2000, with post to Private Bag X1 at the same code. Ntembi Piliso Street was formerly West Street.

Applications and escalation

The two numbers are on entirely different exchanges, 011 491 and 011 639, so the Family Court line is not an extension of the switchboard and must be dialled directly. Family matters at other Johannesburg courts go through those courts rather than this number.
