If you work in the motor industry, your dispute may not go to the CCMA at all. MIBCO is the bargaining council for the sector, and where a council has jurisdiction it hears the matter instead. Referring to the wrong forum wastes the deadline.

What the council actually covers
The motor industry here is broad: dealerships, panel shops, fitment centres, filling stations, parts retailers, auto electricians and component manufacturers. If your employer falls inside the scope of the main agreement, its terms on wages, hours, overtime and leave apply to you whether or not your contract mentions them.
- Provident fund and sick pay contributions are administered for the sector, not by your employer alone. Ask for your fund member number.
- A contract paying below the main agreement rate is not enforceable against you simply because you signed it.
- Deductions must be lawful. Damage to a vehicle cannot simply be taken off your wage without the required process.

Ask the council in writing whether your employer is registered with it before you refer anything. That one question decides the forum, and you can get it answered in a day.
