The licensing office most people mean by “Pinetown licensing office” is the Pinetown Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) testing centre at the corner of the M1 and Stockbill Road. It is run by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, not the municipality, and is listed as a Grade A driving licence testing centre in the department’s eThekwini district. The numbers below come from the department’s Driving Licence Testing Centre contact list dated 23 June 2026.

Services and responsibilities

The KZN Department of Transport lists Pinetown RTI in its register of driving licence and learner’s licence testing centres. That is the place to ask about learner’s and driving licence tests at this centre and about booking at it.

Pinetown has not had its own council since 2000, when it became part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. For municipal services such as rates, water or electricity accounts in Pinetown, contact eThekwini on 031 311 1111 or sizakala@durban.gov.za rather than the testing centre.

Applications and escalation

Take your ID and any booking or application reference when you go. If the centre cannot resolve a problem, the eThekwini district regional office is on 031 700 2222. If anyone offers to guarantee a test pass, sell a licence or “skip the queue” for cash, that is corruption: do not pay, and report it to the National Anti-Corruption Hotline on 0800 701 701.
