Licence Department Contact Details
There is no single licence department in South Africa. The national NaTIS helpdesk is 0861 726 847 and its email address is onlinesupport@rtmc.co.za. Individual licensing centres are run by municipalities and provinces, and most publish no direct telephone number. We read these details on natis.gov.za, durban.gov.za and metsimaholo.gov.za on 24 September 2026.

NaTIS is the national traffic information system, run by the Road Traffic Management Corporation. It handles the system, the online booking service and the forms, not the counters.
Its own service centre directory gives each centre’s name, city, province and street address, and no telephone number for any of them. That is not an omission on this page: the numbers are simply not published nationally.
One rule worth knowing before you try to book. NaTIS states that senior citizens aged 60 or older do not have to book online and are encouraged to walk in to their local Driving Licence Testing Centre.

Sasolburg falls under Metsimaholo Local Municipality, which was formed in 2000 out of the Sasolburg, Deneysville and Oranjeville councils.
The municipality publishes one switchboard number for the whole council and no separate licensing number. Ask for the licensing or traffic department on 016 973 8301.
Note that NaTIS lists three separate Sasolburg facilities at three different addresses. The registering authority in Fichardt Street handles vehicle registration and licensing; the traffic department and the traffic police are elsewhere and do other work.

All three Pinetown facilities share one address in Ashwood. The registering authority, the testing centre and the weigh bridge are separate functions on the same site.
eThekwini does not publish a telephone number for Pinetown. The only licensing numbers on its own site are the booking lines for two other centres, set out below. For Pinetown, the route is the municipal switchboard or a walk-in.

These two centres take bookings for driver’s licence card renewals. eThekwini says the telephone lines are often engaged because of demand, which is why it created an email address for each centre.
The municipality is explicit that these centres are for bookings only.
For a card renewal, eThekwini asks for the original identity document, a copy of it, proof of residence, and preferably an eye test certificate from an optician.
How to find your own licence office
Use the Find a Service Centre search on natis.gov.za. Choose your province, then your city, and it returns the centres with their names and addresses.
Read the centre name carefully. A DLTC is a driving licence testing centre, an RA is a registering authority for vehicles, and an RTI facility is a road traffic inspectorate site. They do different things and are often listed at the same address.
For a number, go to the municipality that runs the centre rather than to NaTIS. Most municipalities publish a single switchboard and route you internally.
Be careful with third-party booking sites. Several charge a fee to make a booking you can make yourself, and a number advertised as a licence department is often theirs rather than the centre’s.
Before you go
Download the form you need from natis.gov.za before you travel. The site carries the road traffic forms, the AARTO forms and the learner driver manual.
Take the original identity document as well as a copy. Every licensing transaction is keyed on the ID, and a copy alone is not accepted.
