The court sits at the corner of Paul Kruger and Madiba Street, Pretoria, with the registrar on the 1st floor and the Court Manager on the 6th. For anything delivered by hand or courier, use that street address.

The postal address looks like a mistake and is not: it is Private Bag X10, Marshalltown, 2107, and Marshalltown is in Johannesburg, roughly 60 kilometres away. Both seats of the Gauteng Division, Pretoria and Johannesburg, share that single private bag. So post addressed to Marshalltown is correct for the Pretoria court, but write “Gauteng Division, Pretoria” on the envelope so it is routed to the right seat.

Pretoria is the main seat, Johannesburg the local seat

Getting this right matters, because the two are separate courthouses with separate registrars. The Gauteng Division has its main seat in Pretoria. The Gauteng Local Division sits in Johannesburg, at the corner of Von Brandis and Pritchard Street.

Note the dialling codes make the distinction easy: Pretoria is 012, Johannesburg is 010 494. A number in the wrong block is the wrong seat.

You may also see the court called the North Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, with Johannesburg as South Gauteng. Those were the previous names and still appear in older documents and on parts of the government’s own site.
