For people searching for a police number in South Africa, 10111 is the national number for an emergency or to report a crime. Crime Stop on 08600 10111 is the separate route for anonymous information about crime.
Calls to 10111 are free from a landline, but cellphone networks charge for them. There are no provincial toll-free police numbers, including for the Western Cape: the national numbers are 10111 and 08600 10111, a share-call number.
How to contact the police anonymously
SAPS gives three anonymous routes. Crime Stop on 08600 10111 runs all day, every day, and does not use number identification, so you stay anonymous unless you introduce yourself.
You can also dial *134*10111#. SAPS describes this as a reverse-billed USSD tip-off line that you do not pay for. Anonymous users see the reference number on screen, while other users get the reference number by SMS.
The MySAPS app provides another tip-off route. It lets you choose “Anonymous” or “Communicate”, attach photos, video or voice clips, and find your nearest police station. The app needs data to send a tip-off.
SAPS does not take crime reports by email or online, and it publishes no SMS line for reporting crime. Use 10111 or go to a police station when you need to report a crime.

SAPS police station contact numbers
SAPS maintains a contacts directory covering more than 1 100 police stations. Each listing has a direct telephone number and an email address. The directory is organised by province, and each provincial page also gives the Provincial Commissioner’s office number and address.
The Eastern Cape has the most listed stations at 198, followed by KwaZulu-Natal on 183, the Western Cape on 152 and Gauteng on 144. The Free State has 112, Limpopo 105, the Northern Cape 93, Mpumalanga 90 and North West 85.
A station’s direct number is useful for non-emergency matters such as following up a case number, asking about an affidavit or certified copy, or checking whether the station handles a particular matter. Keep 10111 for emergencies.

Station email addresses do not follow one standard pattern. Some use the station name, such as Lenasia@saps.gov.za and hillbrow@saps.gov.za. Others use different formats, including ELSIESRIVIERSAPS@saps.gov.za, Kurusaps@saps.gov.za, CT-CENTRAL-SAPS@saps.gov.za and fs.zamdela.sc@saps.gov.za. Guessing an address from the station name will usually fail.

There is no station called Rayton in the SAPS Gauteng station list. The nearby listed station is Cullinan, on 012 497 1384. If a SAPS province page shows the wrong province’s list, reload it: the directory sometimes returns a different province.
Amanzimtoti does not appear in the SAPS station directory. We checked the full national list and there is no entry under that name. If you need police in Amanzimtoti, call 10111, which will route you, or ask the KwaZulu-Natal provincial office which station covers that area.
Some stations are listed with an individual officer’s mailbox rather than a station address. De Aar is one of them. We have given the station telephone number above and left that mailbox out because a personal work address stops working when that officer moves on. Phone the station instead.

The Hawks are not the contact route for an ordinary crime in progress. For that, use 10111. Section 34 of the relevant legislation places a duty on certain people to report certain offences, and failure to report is itself an offence, which is why the DPCI publishes a direct corruption reporting line.
DPCI meaning and Hawks head office in Silverton

SAPS cyber crime unit, HR and recruitment contacts
