Venter is one of the most common surnames among South African doctors, and at least four separate practices trade under it in different provinces and different specialities. A referral or a search result naming only Dr Venter does not identify a practice. The three with their own published websites are set out below, by what they actually do.
Official contact channels
- Drs Venter, Olivier and Partners, family practice in Strand, Western Cape: 021 853 2112
- Their email is published on the practice site as admin{at}strandmedical.co.za, written that way deliberately to deter automated harvesting, so replace the {at} with the at sign when you send
- Dr Marisse Venter, cosmetic plastic surgeon, Milpark, Johannesburg: 011 482 1926, with office numbers 011 480 5835 and 011 480 5837
- Dr Johan Venter, urologist, Pretoria: 012 940 8278 or 012 993 0113, and drventer@urospes.co.za
- A fourth, Dr Detlev Venter at Jukskeipark, is listed by a healthcare network but is a separate practice again
The email addresses published for the Johannesburg plastic surgery practice are personal mailboxes on a free mail domain rather than practice addresses, so they are not reproduced here. Use the office numbers instead.
What this organisation provides
- Strand Medical is a family practice established in January 2000, offering affordable family-orientated private general practice, so no referral is needed
- Dr Marisse Venter is a cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon, covering facelift, neck and eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and scar management, alongside breast reconstruction including implant and autologous reconstruction
- Dr Johan Venter is a urologist whose published interests include robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, male urinary incontinence, sacral neuromodulation, erectile dysfunction surgery and urodynamics
- His practice number is 1190792 and it operates from Netcare Pretoria-East Hospital
The reconstructive and cosmetic distinction matters for funding. Breast reconstruction after cancer surgery is normally a scheme benefit subject to authorisation, while purely cosmetic procedures are usually paid privately. Ask which category your procedure falls into before you book.
Address and operating information
- Drs Venter, Olivier and Partners: Strand, Western Cape
- Dr Marisse Venter: Milpark, Johannesburg
- Dr Johan Venter: Suite M31, Third Floor, Netcare Pretoria-East Hospital, corner Garsfontein and Netcare Road, Moreletapark, Pretoria, 0181
- None of the three publishes consulting hours, so confirm them when you book
Three provinces, three specialities. If you have a referral letter, use the practice number or the street address on it rather than the surname, because that is what a medical scheme and a hospital will match against.
Support and escalation routes
- Contact the correct practice first, using the number above that matches the speciality you were referred to
- Complaints about clinical care or professional conduct: the Health Professions Council of South Africa
- Complaints about a hospital rather than a practice: the relevant hospital group, which for the Pretoria urology practice is Netcare
- Disputes about what your medical scheme paid: the scheme first, then the Council for Medical Schemes
For robotic or laparoscopic surgery in particular, confirm what the scheme has authorised. These procedures are often coded differently from open surgery, and an authorisation issued for one technique does not automatically cover the other.
