BetterLife insurance now trades as BetterSure. The financial services licence that BetterLife Distribution Services held, FSP 24015, is today held by BetterSure Financial Consultants (Pty) Ltd, so a BetterLife life or funeral policyholder should call BetterSure on 086 124 9294 or email life claims to lifeclaims@bettersure.co.za. We read bettersure.co.za, its compliance documents and the FSCA register on 16 September 2026.

BetterSure publishes no separate desk or number for policies sold under the older BetterLife name. The BetterLife phone lines, fax numbers and betterlife.co.za email addresses printed on the group’s website around 2013 and 2014 do not appear on BetterSure’s current website, and betterlife.co.za no longer serves a website, so do not rely on them.

    What happened to BetterLife insurance

    An archived 2014 copy of the BetterLife pages shows that BetterLife was the insurance arm of the BetterLife Group, the group behind BetterBond. Life cover was sold by BetterLife Distribution Services (Pty) Limited, FSP 24015, and home and car cover by BetterSure Insurance Brokers (Pty) Limited, FSP 41839. Its products included the BetterLife Protector, BetterLife Mortgage Protection and the BetterLife Funeral Protector, with the funeral plan underwritten by Old Mutual Alternative Risk Transfer Limited.

    Today BetterSure says it is part of the BetterHome Group and a sister company of BetterBond. It sells whole life cover linked to a home loan, with optional dread disease, disability and retrenchment cover, as well as building and home contents insurance. Its disclosures name Old Mutual Alternative Risk Transfer Limited (OMART) as the life insurer and OMART Insure, FSP 49551, as the non-life insurer, and they say IUA Business Solutions administers certain products.

    For a life claim, BetterSure’s claims page offers three routes: email, the online claim form, or a call to the claims department.

    BetterLife insurance policy queries

    BetterSure handles policy questions by phone, email and WhatsApp. Quote your policy number when you call or write. If an old policy cannot be traced, your policy schedule names the underwriter, which remains liable for valid claims. BetterSure’s complaints policy asks you to include your full name, ID number, contact details, the policy or claim number and the facts of the problem with any supporting documents.

    Watch out for lookalike Better Life websites

    Be careful with lookalike names. The FSCA register lists no provider called “Betterlife”. Its three “Better Life” entries are lapsed licences held by other businesses under different FSP numbers. A separate website, betterlifeinsure.co.za, promoted home, car and funeral cover with premium discounts, grocery vouchers and airtime. It shows no FSP number, no underwriter and no company registration, and it now only says the site is unavailable. We could not link it to BetterSure or to any authorised provider. Before you pay a premium to anyone using the Better Life name, check the FSP number on the FSCA register or call the FSCA on 0800 20 37 22.

    Where to escalate a BetterSure complaint

    1. Contact BetterSure client care or life claims first, and keep the reference you are given.
    2. If that fails, put the complaint in writing to complaints@bettersure.co.za. The policy says BetterSure will give written reasons if it rules against you.
    3. If the problem is how the policy was sold or the advice you got, BetterSure’s policy points to the FAIS Ombud: 012 762 5000, info@faisombud.co.za, within six months of BetterSure’s final answer or of its failure to deal with the complaint.
    4. If a claim was declined, go to the National Financial Ombud Scheme: 0860 800 900, info@nfosa.co.za.
