Discovery KeyCare Plus Contact Details
The Discovery KeyCare Plus contact number is 0860 99 88 77, the Discovery Health Medical Scheme line for hospital authorisations, claims, benefit questions, membership changes and debit order queries. From outside South Africa, call +27 11 529 6900. It is open Monday to Friday 07:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 13:00, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. Have your membership number ready. For a medical emergency or medically equipped transport, call Discovery 911 on 0860 999 911, 24 hours a day. What KeyCare Plus covers
KeyCare Plus is one of four plans in Discovery Health Medical Scheme’s KeyCare Series, alongside KeyCare Core, KeyCare Start and KeyCare Start Regional. On KeyCare Plus you get:
- Hospital: unlimited private hospital cover at a hospital in the KeyCare Hospital Network, and day surgery for defined conditions in the KeyCare Day Surgery Network.
- Specialists in hospital: full cover with specialists who have a payment arrangement with Discovery; other specialists and healthcare professionals at 100% of the Discovery Health Rate.
- Day-to-day: primary care through your chosen KeyCare GP and day-to-day medicine from the medicine list. The 2026 guide says each dependant on KeyCare Plus must choose a KeyCare network GP.
- Chronic illness: cover for the 27 Chronic Disease List conditions under the Prescribed Minimum Benefits once approved, with full cover for approved medicine on the KeyCare medicine list at a designated service provider pharmacy.
- Cancer: full cover for Prescribed Minimum Benefit cancer treatment when you use a designated service provider.
- Maternity: pre- and post-natal healthcare and early childhood cover.
KeyCare Plus compared with KeyCare Core
The 2026 guide says the day-to-day cover described above is available on KeyCare Plus, KeyCare Start and KeyCare Start Regional, while KeyCare Core members only have access to the Specialist Benefit. If you are deciding between Plus and Core, ask about this on 0860 99 88 77 before you join or change plans. Discovery also has a KeyCare plan quote page.
The Personal Health Fund on KeyCare
KeyCare plans include a Personal Health Fund, which you build by completing Personal Health Pathways actions and challenges. The 2026 guide says you can accumulate up to R8,000 in the fund, and includes a once-off boost of R1,000 per person (up to R6,000 per policy) for 2026. Use the Discovery Health app to see your fund balance and pathways.
Before you go to hospital on KeyCare Plus
Call 0860 99 88 77 for authorisation before a planned admission, and confirm the hospital is in the KeyCare Hospital Network, which Discovery publishes on the KeyCare Series page. In an emergency, call Discovery 911 with your membership number; Discovery says its emergency personnel assess each case and send the most appropriate road or air transport.
Complaints about KeyCare Plus
- If a query is unresolved, complete the online complaints form on the Contact us page (Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 17:00).
- If you are still not satisfied, escalate to the Principal Officer of Discovery Health Medical Scheme through the form on the same page.
- To challenge a final decision, lodge a formal dispute using the Scheme’s dispute form.
Discovery Health Medical Scheme is a non-profit entity governed by the Medical Schemes Act. It is administered by a separate company, Discovery Health (Pty) Ltd, an authorised financial services provider.
