Discovery Health call centre and customer service contact number

For Discovery Health customer service, members call 0860 99 88 77. Discovery uses this number for hospital authorisations, claims queries, benefit information, membership updates and debit order queries. The member line is open Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 20:00 and Saturday from 08:00 to 13:00, and is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Discovery asks members to have their membership number ready when calling. From outside South Africa, members use +27 11 529 6900. For simple queries, members can also use the WhatsApp service by registering through “Get help on WhatsApp” on Discovery’s Contact Us page. WhatsApp is available at all hours, with agents available Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 17:00. Ask Discovery and the Discovery Health App can also be used to find documents and certificates.

Discovery asks you to give your medical aid membership number. Save both numbers in your phone and in the phones of your dependants so they are available if you cannot make the call yourself. For a life-threatening emergency where you cannot reach Discovery 911, South Africa’s general emergency numbers still apply.

Discovery Health authorisation and claims contact number

For a hospital authorisation, use 0860 99 88 77. It is the same Discovery Health contact number used by members for claims, benefits, membership updates and debit order queries. Discovery asks callers to have their membership number ready. The line operates Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 20:00 and Saturday from 08:00 to 13:00, and is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

For a planned hospital stay, call during those hours before your admission date. In an emergency, use Discovery 911 first. KeyCare members use the same 0860 99 88 77 number as every other Discovery Health Medical Scheme plan. Discovery does not publish a separate KeyCare line on its Contact Us page. Doctors, practices and other healthcare professionals use 0860 44 55 66 or healthpartnerinfo@discovery.co.za. Discovery says this contact route handles queries unique to healthcare professionals, including validating memberships, confirming benefits, claims queries and benefit information.

Discovery asks healthcare professionals to have their practice number and the patient’s details ready. The line is open Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 18:00 and closed on weekends and public holidays. Providers already registered on the Discovery website who cannot access the Health Professional Zone can complete a request form on the contact page. Patients should not use the provider line. Members use 0860 99 88 77.

Discovery Health contacts for employers and financial advisers

Employers use 0860 99 88 77 or administration@discovery.co.za for billing enquiries, administration changes and general membership and maintenance queries. Discovery notes that employers on a cash scheme should contact their Portfolio Administrator instead.

Discovery Health complaints

Discovery Health Medical Scheme does not publish a complaints email address. Complaints go through three steps on discovery.co.za/corporate/contact-us:

• Complete the online complaints form with your membership or ID number, email address and your previous and current query. The complaints team works Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 17:00.
• If it is still unresolved, escalate to the Principal Officer of Discovery Health Medical Scheme using the form on the same page.
• To challenge a final Scheme decision, lodge a formal dispute with the dispute form.
