The claims number and the enquiries number are the same 0800 line. Only the email addresses differ, so say up front that you are registering a claim rather than asking a question.
It is a toll-free number, so it costs nothing from a landline. That matters when you are making this call at the worst possible time.
Funeral and life claims use different mailboxes
This is the mistake worth avoiding, because the two products look similar and the phone number is identical.

A funeral claim sent to the life claims mailbox lands in the wrong team’s queue. Check which policy you actually hold before you send, and put the policy number in the subject line.
Note that legal insurance is the odd one out: its claims go to the general enquiries address, not to a dedicated claims mailbox.

One 0800 number serves funeral, life and legal insurance. One 0861 number serves head office and investments. So there are really only two customer numbers plus the switchboard.
Calling Hollard from outside South Africa
Take care here, because Hollard prints the international number two different ways on the same page.
The head office block gives +27 11 351 5000, which is correct. The investments card on the same page gives “+27 351 5000”, missing the 11. As printed, that second version is a digit short and will not connect.
Use +27 11 351 5000. A South African 011 number drops only the leading zero when dialled internationally, so the 11 must stay.
The 0800 and 0861 numbers will not work from abroad at all. From outside the country, the switchboard is the only route in.

The street address is in Parktown and the post box is in Houghton. Both are correct, so do not change one to match the other.

Have the exact company name off your policy schedule ready when you call. It is the fastest way for the claims team to find the right system.
If you would rather go in person, Hollard publishes downloadable directions to its head office for drivers coming from Sandton, Johannesburg Central, Alberton, Southgate, Kempton Park, Roodepoort and Pretoria.
Car, home and pet policies are no longer Hollard’s
If you are holding an older policy, this will save you a call to the wrong company.
Hollard now routes car, extended car warranty, home contents, buildings and pet insurance to Dotsure Limited, which it describes as a separate licensed non-life insurer in which Hollard holds a shareholding.
So the funeral and life numbers above will not help with a car or home claim. The funeral claims team cannot see those policies at all.
Reporting fraud
Hollard runs its fraud line through an outside service on 0801 516 170, with reports by email to hollard@tip-offs.com. It says reports are confidential and go to an independent team.
That is for suspected fraudulent or unethical conduct. A problem with your own claim goes to the claims line instead.
