The scheme publishes one number for everything. There is no separate claims line, no separate hospital pre-authorisation line and no separate emergency number on its site, so 0860 103 933 handles joining, benefit options, day-to-day benefits and claims alike.
LA Health operating hours
07:00 to 17:00 on weekdays only. The line is not open on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays, and it closes at five.
That early 07:00 opening is genuinely useful if you can call before work. It is also the quietest part of the day on most medical scheme lines.
Because there is no after-hours scheme number published, anything urgent over a weekend has to go through your hospital or your doctor rather than through the scheme. Do not delay treatment waiting for the call centre to open.
The LA Health email address is on a different domain

Discovery Stores all share one number
LA Health lists five Discovery Stores you can walk into. Every one of them is listed with the same telephone number, 011 529 7247, which is a Johannesburg number even for the Cape Town and Durban branches.
So you cannot phone a specific store. That number reaches a central line, and if you need to know whether a particular store can help with your matter, ask on the call.

Sandton, Century City, Umhlanga and Sea Point open 08:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays, and 08:00 to 13:00 on Sundays and public holidays. Menlyn is different: 09:00 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday, and 09:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
Those store hours are wider than the call centre’s, including weekends, which makes a store the only in-person route on a Saturday.
Who runs the scheme
LA Health Medical Scheme is a registered medical scheme, registration number 1145, administered by Discovery Health. The scheme’s website carries a notice stating that the site itself is owned by the administrator’s holding company, Discovery Holdings.
That is why the walk-in branches are Discovery Stores and why the scheme points members at the Discovery app. The scheme and the administrator are separate entities even though the service channels are shared.
One small thing worth noting: the site’s footer still reads Copyright 2024. Treat the details here as worth confirming on the call, as you would with any number you did not read today.
Before you call
Have your membership number ready, from your card or the app. It is the first thing you will be asked for and the call cannot proceed far without it.
