Members can also register and log in on libcare.co.za for documents, the digital membership card and claims, and for a planned admission you should send pre-authorisation requests to approvals@libcare.co.za before the procedure, not after.
What the Libcare call centre and email addresses handle
The one call centre handles every member and provider query, so the email address you choose is what sends the query to the right team: general questions to enquiries@libcare.co.za, hospital approvals to approvals@libcare.co.za, chronic medicine to chronicmed@libcare.co.za, oncology to oncology@libcare.co.za and HIV care to care@libcare.co.za. When you call or write, have your membership number ready and keep the reference you are given.
What Libcare covers
Libcare is a registered medical scheme (registration number 1197). Its site sets out cover for hospital and doctor visits, Prescribed Minimum Benefits, maternity, preventative care, and managed care programmes for chronic medicine, oncology and HIV. The scheme also lists the Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology (cdediabetes.co.za) among its contracted service providers.
A medical scheme is different from health insurance. As a registered scheme, Libcare must cover Prescribed Minimum Benefits, and complaints about it can go to the Council for Medical Schemes, which regulates schemes under the Medical Schemes Act.
Emergencies and after-hours medical help
For an emergency at any time, day or night, use the contracted provider Netcare 911 on 082 911. The Libcare call centre itself only runs Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00, so outside those hours Netcare 911 is the route for emergencies and the email addresses are the route for everything else.
Complaining to Libcare and the Council for Medical Schemes
Raise the query first on 0800 12 2273 or the matching email address, with your membership number, and keep the reference. If the scheme does not resolve it, lodge a complaint with the Council for Medical Schemes on 086 112 3267 or complaints@medicalschemes.co.za.
Libcare publishes a Security and Fraud page on its site. Never give your login details or a one-time PIN to anyone who phones you claiming to be from the scheme; call 0800 12 2273 yourself instead.
