PEP Funeral Cover for Pensioners Contact Details
Funeral cover sold at PEP is the Abacus Funeral Plan, and its customer care and claims line is 0800 777 444 (toll-free). Abacus is Pepkor’s insurance business, but it has no separate plan for pensioners: you and your spouse must be under 64 to join.

Official provider route
Pepkor’s financial-services page names Abacus Insurance as its insurance business, and Abacus lists PEP among the stores where premiums are paid. The underwriters are Abacus Life Limited (FSP 47062, reg 2007/032597/06) and Abacus Insurance Limited (FSP 47063, reg 2007/035136/06). Product or service support
- Cover options are R15 000, R25 000 or R35 000.
- Individual cover costs R60, R80 or R100 a month.
- The beneficiary also gets R1 000 a month for 3 months after the burial.
- Premiums can be paid in cash at PEP and other Pepkor stores, or with a Pep, Dunns or Ackermans A+ store card.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
Abacus says you and your spouse can join the Funeral Plan only if you are under 64. It does not publish a plan for pensioners joining at 65 or older, so a pensioner over that age cannot take out this cover as the main member.
- Buy the Funeral Plan at a participating store such as PEP.
- Keep it active by paying in store, or set up a debit order on 0800 777 444 or 031 570 7631.
- To claim, register at the store where you bought the plan or call 0800 777 444, then email documents to claims@abacus-insurance.co.za.
