Fair Price runs two different numbers for two different kinds of purchase, and using the wrong one is the commonest reason a query stalls. In-store and online are handled by separate teams on separate hours.
Fair Price contact details
- Head office and in-store purchase queries: 087 740 2101, choosing option 1 for an in-store query
- Online purchase queries: 087 740 3247
- Head office address, by appointment only: 8 Rente Street, Ormonde, Johannesburg South 2091
Fair Price states explicitly that the Ormonde address does not offer walk-in customer service and that visits are by appointment. Arriving there with a furniture complaint will not get it dealt with; phoning first will.
Operating hours differ between the two lines
- Head office and in-store: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30. Closed Sundays and public holidays.
- Online: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00, Saturday 08:00 to 11:00. Closed Sundays and public holidays.
- The online line runs half an hour later on weekdays and is the only one open on a Saturday morning.
Which route for which problem
For an in-store purchase Fair Price offers three routes on its Help Center: find the store on the store locator and deal with it directly, leave your details for a call back, or phone 087 740 2101 and choose option 1. For an online order there is a self-service Help Center as well as the 087 740 3247 line. Track My Order and Returns both sit under My Account rather than needing a call at all.
Lay-by and credit
Fair Price sells furniture and appliances on a 12-month in-store lay-by described as interest free. A lay-by is governed by the Consumer Protection Act: the goods remain the retailer’s until fully paid, but the money you have paid is yours, and if you cancel you are entitled to a refund less a cancellation penalty capped by the Act. Get the lay-by terms in writing at the till, keep every receipt, and check what happens to your payments if the item is discontinued before you finish paying.
If the store cannot resolve it
- Escalate from the store to head office on 087 740 2101 and ask for a reference number.
- A defect appearing within six months of delivery entitles you to a repair, replacement or refund at your election under the Consumer Protection Act.
- The National Consumer Commission is the external escalation once the retailer has had its chance.
