Reading the classification

Classifications are issued by the Film and Publication Board, and the letters after the age tell you why.

• The number is the minimum age, and some ratings permit attendance only with parental guidance.
• The advisory letters indicate content: violence, language, sex, nudity, drug use, prejudice.
• Take the advisories seriously for younger children, since a rating a child technically qualifies for may still not suit them.
• Distributing certain classified material to a child is an offence, and that extends well beyond cinemas.

Tickets and refunds

Buy through the cinema’s own channels. Resold or forged tickets are refused at the door, and a duplicated barcode admits whoever arrives first.

If a screening is cancelled or the presentation fails, you are entitled to a remedy, whether a refund or a replacement, under the Consumer Protection Act.
