“PayJoy merchant 3” is PayJoy’s retailer portal at app.payjoy.com/merchant3, linked as “Retailers Login” on payjoy.com/za. It is for partner stores and their sales staff, not for customers. Shops that want to sell phones with PayJoy can apply at payjoy.com/za/for-retailers. PayJoy says the customer applies in store with a valid SA ID and gets a decision within minutes, PayJoy provides the rental agreement and pays the retailer the full amount, and missed payments are PayJoy’s risk, not the store’s.
PayJoy login, balance check and payment reference number
PayJoy’s South African site has only the Retailers Login; customers do not log in on payjoy.com/za. PayJoy does not publish a way to look up your payment reference number or balance online. How PayJoy phone rental works
- What you need: a valid photo ID and an active phone number. PayJoy says no credit history or bank account is needed, and that 9 out of 10 people are approved.
- Two ways to apply: check your approved amount online in minutes with your SA ID, then complete the application at your nearest kiosk or partner store and get your phone the same day; or chat with an agent on WhatsApp for help finding a store.
- Terms: fixed weekly or monthly payments over 3 to 12 months. PayJoy describes it as a rental agreement with an option to purchase.
- Upfront payment: up to 30%, depending on your risk profile. Your rate is calculated at the time of purchase, and PayJoy says you see every cost before you commit.
- Brands: HONOR, Vivo, Oppo, realme, Motorola, Xiaomi, Samsung, Tecno, Infinix and itel, with models varying by store.
Locked phone, missed payments and unlocking
PayJoy uses the phone as security. If you miss a payment, the phone locks until you catch up, and PayJoy says it adds no late fees or extra charges. Once you pay, the phone unlocks right away with no codes or calls, but PayJoy warns that the phone must be connected to data so the PayJoy App can update after the payment; without a data connection the phone will not unlock.
