Illegal dumping is an offence carrying a fine, and it is the single biggest cause of the blocked drains that flood streets in summer. Household waste, garden refuse and builder’s rubble each have a proper route, and none of them is the pavement.

Getting a missed collection actually collected
- Log a reference number. A complaint without one cannot be traced or escalated, and this is the step most people skip.
- Put the bin out the night before or early, and bring it in the same day. Bins left standing are stolen and are also a by-law issue.
- A damaged or stolen bin is replaced on application, not automatically.
- Escalate to the ward councillor if repeated logs achieve nothing, quoting every reference number.

Check the operator is licensed before paying anyone to remove rubble. A cheap bakkie load usually ends up dumped on open ground nearby, and the property owner who paid can be held responsible. Roodepoort is on the 011 code. Verified 25 August 2026.
