Individual hotel pages sit on marriott.com rather than on the Protea site, and each hotel is reached through the central number above or through the booking system.

There is no Protea Hotel Empangeni

We checked every one of the 53 hotels Protea currently lists. None is in Empangeni.

The closest is Protea Hotel Umfolozi River, which Protea files under Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal, roughly twenty kilometres from Empangeni. If you have been given an “Empangeni” Protea booking, that is almost certainly the property meant.

KwaZulu-Natal has only four Protea hotels in total: three in Durban, at Umhlanga, Umhlanga Ridge and Karridene Beach, and the Umfolozi River hotel at Richards Bay.

Confirm the hotel name on your booking before you drive. Old listings for closed or renamed hotels stay online for years, and a booking reference for a hotel that no longer carries that name will not be found at the desk.

There is no Protea hotel in Manzini

This one is broader than a single missing hotel.

Protea operates in ten countries: South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Angola, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Eswatini is not among them, so there is no Protea hotel in Manzini, Mbabane or anywhere else in the country.

If you are holding a reservation for a “Protea Hotel Manzini”, treat it with suspicion, particularly if you were asked to pay a deposit into an account. Verify it on 021 427 7950 before sending money.

Protea Hotel Pretoria Loftus Park

This hotel is current. Protea lists it under Pretoria in Gauteng, alongside Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Pretoria Menlyn and Protea Hotel Pretoria Hatfield.

On the published email address, the honest answer is that Protea does not publish a public email address for this or any individual hotel. The hotel’s own page is hosted on marriott.com, and Marriott routes guest contact through the central number, the booking system and its app rather than through per-hotel mailboxes.

So an address in the form of a hotel name at proteahotels.com, of the kind that circulates in directories, is not something Protea publishes. Use 021 427 7950 and ask to be put through, or use the messaging function attached to an existing booking, which reaches the hotel directly and carries your reservation number with it.

Two errors on Protea’s own hotel list

Worth knowing, because both concern the Pretoria hotels.

The Loftus Park entry is misspelled on Protea’s locations page as “Protea Hotel Pretoria oftus Park”, missing the letter L. If a search for “Loftus” on that page returns nothing, that is why.

Second, the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Pretoria Menlyn entry links to the Loftus Park hotel page, not to its own. Clicking Menlyn takes you to Loftus Park. These are two different hotels in two different parts of Pretoria, so check which one you have landed on before booking.

That leaves one province out entirely. Protea has no hotel in the Eastern Cape, so there is nothing in Gqeberha, East London or Mthatha under this brand.

Pretoria and Lusaka are the best-served cities after Cape Town and Johannesburg, with three and five hotels respectively.
