What the Three Rondavels is
MTPA calls the Three Rondavels the most famous and most photographed attraction in the region. The formations stand at one end of the Blyde River Canyon, at the northern end of the Drakensberg range. They look like traditional African rondavels because the harder rock layers on top eroded more slowly than the softer stone below.
The Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve also includes Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Pinnacle Rock and God’s Window. MTPA describes the canyon as 26 km long and, on average, about 800 m deep.
