The City Power fault logging number is 011 490 7484. The call centre is open 07:00 to 19:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays and 08:00 to 13:00 on Sundays and public holidays. If a logged fault is not attended to, the escalation line is 0800 003 156. We read this on citypower.co.za on 24 September 2026.

There are two toll-free numbers and they differ

City Power publishes two 0800 numbers and they are not interchangeable.

0800 202 925 is the toll-free route to the call centre. Use it to log a fault if you would rather not pay for the call.

0800 003 156 is the escalation number. It is the one to use when a fault has already been logged, you have a reference, and nothing has happened.

Escalating before you have logged anything wastes the call. Log first on 011 490 7484 or the toll-free line, get a reference number, and keep it.

The online fault portal is on a different domain

This is worth explaining, because it looks exactly like something you should not click.

City Power’s Fault Logging link does not stay on citypower.co.za. It goes to citypower.mobi, a separate domain, and asks you to log in.

We checked it. The portal holds a valid, current security certificate issued for citypower.mobi, and the link originates from City Power’s own website. It is legitimate.

Even so, a utility login on an unfamiliar domain is worth treating carefully. Reach it by clicking through from citypower.co.za rather than from a link in an email or a message, and never enter your details on a similar-looking address that you arrived at some other way.

Reporting theft, vandalism and illegal connections

These have their own channels, separate from fault logging, and one of them takes WhatsApp.

Theft and vandalism, toll-free0800 116 166
Theft and vandalism, WhatsApp083 579 4497
Cable theft011 490 7900
Anti-fraud and illegal connections0800 002 587

The WhatsApp number, 083 579 4497, is useful because it lets you send a photograph and a location without having to describe either over the phone.

Note that the anti-fraud number, 0800 002 587, is the same line the City of Johannesburg publishes as its own anti-fraud hotline. City Power is a City of Johannesburg entity, so that is expected rather than a mistake.

Street lighting is handled by the two depots rather than the service delivery centres, Bryanston for the north and Klipspruit for the south. A streetlight fault is their work.

Note that Reuven is the one centre not on the 011 490 range, on 011 870 7000.

Before you log a fault

Have your account number or meter number, and the street address of the fault.

Say whether the outage affects only your property or the whole street, because that decides whether it is treated as a connection fault or a network fault.

Write down the reference number. Without it the escalation line on 0800 003 156 cannot take the matter further.
