What Recharger provides

Recharger supplies prepaid sub-meters that let a landlord or property owner sell electricity and water to tenants on a prepaid basis. Tenants buy vouchers at retailers such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite Checkers and Spar, on major banking apps (FNB, Absa and Capitec) or on Recharger’s Pay Portal.

Meter owners must register their sub-meters. Registration needs a copy of the owner’s ID plus a recent bank statement or bank confirmation letter. There is no registration fee and the owner must be 18 or older. Activation takes about 30 minutes to 2 hours after a successful registration.

For chain store vending, Recharger deducts an 11% (excl VAT) chain store fee, plus a monthly service fee of R29.00 (excl VAT) per sub-meter, taken from the owner’s rebate in months with purchases. Rebates cover the calendar month and are paid on or before the 3rd business day of the following month; allow 3 to 5 working days for the money to reflect.
