Official SAPS complaints route

SAPS advises that you lodge a service complaint at the police station concerned first. If the station does not resolve it, go to your provincial Service Complaints desk. The national call centre, 0800 333 177, is for when both the station and the province have failed you.

What you need before contacting

Note the police station concerned and what happened. SAPS’s complaints page does not list further documents, but keep any case or reference numbers from the station and province so the next level can follow up.

Step-by-step contact process

  1. Lodge the complaint at the police station concerned.
  2. If it is not resolved, contact your provincial Service Complaints desk from the table above.
  3. If the province also fails, call 0800 333 177, fax 012 393 5452 or email complaintsnodalpoint@saps.gov.za.

Escalation route

The National Service Complaints Call Centre is the top level of SAPS’s own complaints process. Provincial desks use email addresses in the form XX.ServiceComplaints@saps.gov.za, such as NW.ServiceComplaints@saps.gov.za. SAPS Head Office is at Telkom Towers Building, 152 Johannes Ramokhoase Street, Pretoria, postal address Private Bag X94, Pretoria, 0001. See also SAPS contact details and our government directory.
