Sizwe Hosmed Medical Scheme is a registered South African medical scheme. It publishes an unusually detailed contact directory, routing each type of query to its own mailbox rather than to a single call centre. Everything below was read from the Sizwe Hosmed contact page on 31 August 2026.
Official contact channels
- Customer service: 0860 100 871
- General enquiries: [email protected]
- Medical emergencies and ambulance: 082 911
- New claims: [email protected]
- Follow-up on an existing claim: [email protected]
- Pre-authorisation: [email protected], confirm on 086 010 1176
- GP to specialist referral: [email protected]
- Membership enquiries and cards: [email protected]
Note the split between new and follow-up claims: a first submission goes to the claims mailbox, but chasing one already lodged goes to queries. Sending a follow-up to the claims address restarts it in the wrong queue.
What this organisation provides
Sizwe Hosmed provides medical scheme cover across a range of plan options and runs several managed care programmes, each with its own contact route:
- Chronic disease application: [email protected], 086 010 3455
- Chronic Disease List conditions: [email protected], 0860 10 3455
- Chronic medication application: [email protected]
- Oncology: [email protected], 086 010 3454
- Maternity, the Bambino programme: [email protected], 086 000 0048
- HIV programme: [email protected]
The oncology and chronic numbers differ by a single digit – 086 010 3454 for oncology and 086 010 3455 for chronic. Check the last digit before dialling. Sizwe Hosmed also publishes a scheme app, and a formulary look-up on its website for checking whether a medicine is covered before you pay for it.
Address and operating information
Sizwe Hosmed operates walk-in centres at the following addresses:
- Johannesburg: 23 West Street, Johannesburg, 2198
- eMalahleni, Witbank: Plumer Street and Mandela Street, Nkangala, Mpumalanga, 1034
- Welkom: Buiten Street and Graaf Street, Lejweleputswa, Free State, 9459
- Durban: 19 Hurst Grove, Musgrave, Berea, 4001
- Gqeberha: 70 Second Avenue, Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape, 6045
- Cape Town: 7th Floor, Norton Rose House, 8 Riebeek Street, 8001
The scheme does not publish walk-in centre operating hours, so confirm on 0860 100 871 before travelling. The 082 911 emergency and ambulance number is a 24-hour line and is the only number on this page that should be used in a medical emergency – do not phone the customer service line for an ambulance.
Support and escalation routes
Sizwe Hosmed publishes two internal escalation channels separate from ordinary customer service:
- Complaints: [email protected]
- Whistleblower line: [email protected], toll-free 0800 212 150
The complaints address uses a hyphenated domain, sizwe-hosmed.co.za, which differs from the sizwehosmed.co.za domain used by every other mailbox. That is how the scheme publishes it, so type it carefully. The whistleblower channel is run by an independent provider, which is why it uses a whistleblowing.co.za address rather than a scheme one.
If the scheme does not resolve your complaint, medical schemes are regulated by the Council for Medical Schemes:
- Council for Medical Schemes: 0861 123 267
- Complaints: [email protected]
- Operating hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 16:30
