This page covers reaching the admissions office at the Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark, and what that office can and cannot resolve. The details below were read from vut.ac.za on 2 September 2026.

Task scope

Admissions handles applying to VUT and everything up to being accepted: programme choices, whether you meet the minimum requirements, the online application itself, the application fee, and checking an application’s status.

It does not handle fees, funding or registration. Tuition accounts and NSFAS queries go to the finance and funding offices, and registration is a separate process after acceptance – sending those to admissions adds a hand-off.

Route

If the application portal itself will not load or accept a login, that is an IT problem, not an admissions one. The helpdesk on 016 950 9111 fixes it faster, and admissions cannot.

Requirements

You need to meet the published minimum admission requirements for the programme you choose – VUT asks applicants to check these before applying, because an application to a programme you do not qualify for is rejected rather than redirected.

Applicants with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated before they can be assessed. VUT publishes a separate route for evaluation of international qualifications, and this step takes time – start it early rather than at the closing date.

An application fee is payable, and this is the rule that matters most: VUT states the application fee must be paid on the application portal only. It says so twice on its own how-to-apply page. Nobody at the university will ask you to pay an application fee into a personal account, by EFT to an individual, or in cash to an agent – a request like that is a scam, and paying it does not create an application.

Steps

VUT sets out four steps:

  • Choose programmes – a first and a second choice, undergraduate or postgraduate
  • Check admission requirements for both choices
  • Apply online, submitting all required information and documents
  • Pay the application fee on the portal, then finalise and submit

Use the second choice properly. It is the difference between being considered for something else and being turned away when the first choice fills.

Closing dates published for the 2027 intake are 30 September for academic applications (first semester and year students) and 31 October for residences. Residence is a separate application on a later date – being accepted academically does not give you a room.

After submitting, monitor progress yourself through the Check Application Status facility. VUT asks applicants to check regularly – outcomes are posted there rather than phoned through.

Escalation

Chase a stalled application on the admissions numbers with your application reference, ID number and the date you submitted. If admissions cannot resolve it, take it to the Student Contact Centre, then to the faculty concerned – Applied and Computer Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Human Sciences, or Management Sciences.

VUT publishes forms for the changes that usually follow admission: change of course, course cancellation, addition or cancellation of a subject, programme transition, re-admission, studying at another institution, and refunds. Using the form is faster than phoning about it.

Report anyone soliciting payment for a place, or any corruption in admissions, to VUT’s Ethics and Fraud Hotline, linked from its site. Beyond the university, a complaint about a public higher education institution goes to the Department of Higher Education and Training and maladministration to the Public Protector.
