Absa Trust handles wills, deceased estates and trust administration. Absa publishes separate numbers for each of those functions rather than one trust line, and calling the right one first avoids being passed between teams during what is usually an already difficult process.

The Estate Intake Centre is the number to use when reporting a death and opening an estate. Wills Direct deals with drafting, safe custody and retrieving a will. Absa Trusts covers ongoing trust administration once an estate or trust is already in place.
What this organisation provides
Absa Trust acts as executor of deceased estates, drafts and stores wills, and administers trusts on behalf of clients. It is a distinct business from Absa’s day-to-day banking, so a branch cannot resolve an estate query and the general customer care line will route you rather than answer it.
Where Absa is not the appointed executor, the trust and estates teams cannot act on the estate at all, and the family or their attorney deals with the Master directly. Confirm early which of the two situations applies, because it determines who you should be calling for the rest of the process.
Estate administration in South Africa runs in parallel with the Master of the High Court, which issues letters of executorship. Absa Trust deals with the Master on the estate’s behalf where it is appointed executor, but the Master’s office remains a separate authority with its own timelines.
Address and operating information
Absa Trust also administers trusts created during a person’s lifetime, not only those arising on death. Those have their own reporting and tax obligations, and the trust administration line rather than the estate intake number is the route for them.
Absa does not publish a dedicated walk-in address or operating hours for the trust and estates teams on its contact page. Estate matters are handled by correspondence and appointment rather than at a branch counter, so the numbers above are the entry points.
Support and escalation routes
Estate administration is slow by design and the timelines are set by law rather than by the bank. Expect the process to run in months rather than weeks, and expect to be asked for the same documents more than once as the file moves between the intake stage and administration. Keeping certified copies to hand saves repeated trips.
A common source of confusion is the difference between the bank and the executor. Absa the bank freezes the deceased’s accounts on notification of death; Absa Trust, where appointed, administers the estate. They are separate functions with separate reference numbers, so quote the right one.
Report the death to the Estate Intake Centre first and get a reference number; every later call depends on it. Have the deceased’s identity document, the death certificate and the original will if you hold it. If an estate is not progressing and the internal route has been exhausted, the Master of the High Court supervises the administration of deceased estates and is the external authority.
