The South African Nursing Council publishes one general enquiry number and two mailboxes for different purposes. The most prominent number in its contact block is a fax, not a telephone line.

What this regulator handles

SANC is the statutory body that regulates nursing in South Africa. It registers nurses and midwives, accredits nursing education institutions, maintains a public eRegister of practitioners, and handles professional conduct matters. It does not employ nurses or place them in jobs.

Complaints and escalation process

Misconduct complaints have their own mailbox and should not go to the general enquiries address, which slows them down. The council also runs a separate fraud hotline, linked from its contact page, for reporting fraud rather than clinical conduct.

Address and operating information

The council gives no street address, only the postal address above. Two cautions about the numbers on its site. First, the block headed For More Information leads with Fax: National 012 343 5400 and International +27 12 343 5400. That is a fax and will not answer as a voice call, yet it sits above the telephone number and is easily copied by mistake. Second, the site footer prints the enquiry number as +27 (0) 12 420 100, which is one digit short. The full number is 012 420 1000.
