FoneYam is a smartphone rental service, not a PEP lay-by and not a PEP department. It is a separate company with its own call centre, its own website and its own claims process, sold through PEP stores and three other retail chains.
Official contact channels
- FoneYam call centre and WhatsApp: 0860 900 900

- USSD, free: *134*33011#
- PEP Customer Care, for store matters: 086 073 7000
What this organisation provides
FoneYam rents a smartphone over 12 monthly payments rather than selling it on credit outright. Insurance is included at no extra cost and is underwritten by Abacus, covering death, disability, loss of income and a lost or stolen device. Claims go to [email protected]. Besides PEP, the service is offered through Ackermans, Dunns and HiFiCorp.
Address and operating information
The call centre runs Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00, Saturday 08:00 to 17:00, Sunday 09:00 to 16:00 and public holidays 09:00 to 17:00. The head office is at 1 Industrie Street, Kuils River 7580. To apply you need a valid South African ID or passport, you must be 18 or older, a photograph is taken during the application, and a small upfront payment is made when you collect the phone in store, followed by a further payment on day seven.
Support and escalation routes
For a lost or stolen device the claim needs a South African Police Service case number, an affidavit giving your name, ID or passport number, the contract cellphone number, the device IMEI number, the ITC number and the case or OB number, plus a certified copy of your identity document. FoneYam warns that its only official channels are foneyam.co.za, apply.foneyam.co.za, the 0860 900 900 call centre and email addresses ending in foneyam.co.za, that payment should be made only through Pay@ at participating tills or payat.io using the reference on your Device Rental Schedule, and that it will never ask for your PIN, CVV or a one-time password. Note that the free USSD string is a menu code dialled from a handset, not a number that can be called.
