How to check your PEP account balance
PEP gives three ways to check your PEP account balance, available credit and instalment:
- WhatsApp: say “HI” to 060 070 2320 to view your balance and instalment, or apply for a credit limit increase.
- USSD: dial *120*3012# to check your balance and instalment, or apply for a credit limit increase (network rates apply).
- Voice prompts: dial 0860 900 500, select the PEP account card option and follow the prompts. Have your card and ID number ready.
PEP publishes no web login for the PEP Account balance. The “Sign in” on pepstores.com is for the online shop, not your credit account.
PEP account statement
Tenacity sends your PEP account statement every month, by email or to your mobile device depending on the option you chose, unless nothing was debited or credited in that period. The statement shows the full and the minimum amount due. For a statement request or statement query, call the service centre on 0860 900 500 or email pep@tenacityinc.co.za. If the email address or phone number where you receive statements changes, tell Tenacity, or statements are returned and stop until you update your details. Not receiving a statement does not excuse non-payment.
How to pay your PEP account
- In store at any PEP, Refinery, Ackermans, Tekkie Town or Dunns store.
- By internet or app banking, using the pre-approved beneficiary “Tenacity Financial Services” with your 16-digit PEP Account card number as the reference.
- By EFT, or cash at an ATM, using the banking details published on the PEP Account page at pepstores.com/pages/pep-account.
- By debit order: email pep@tenacityinc.co.za or call 0860 900 500.
- In cash at a Flash Trader.
We do not copy bank account numbers onto this page: take them from pepstores.com yourself. If you cannot pay your instalment, email accounts@tenacityinc.co.za or call 0860 900 500.
Where you can shop with a PEP account
PEP says the PEP account card can be used at any PEP store, and that Refinery, Ackermans, Ayana, Tekkie Town and Dunns store cards can also be used at PEP. Tenacity’s terms and conditions list the participating stores in South Africa as Ackermans, Ayana, Pep, Tekkie Town, Style, Legit, Swagga, Dunns, Refinery and Code.
Apply for a PEP account and check your application
Apply in store or online at apply.pepstores.com. You need your ID and your latest 3 months’ payslips or bank statements (whether you are permanent, on contract, self-employed, a domestic worker or a pensioner). PEP publishes no online application tracker: to follow up on an application, call 0860 900 500 or email pep@tenacityinc.co.za.
Update your details or close your PEP account
To update your phone number, address or statement delivery details, notify Tenacity in writing: email pep@tenacityinc.co.za or post to P O Box 140, Kuils River, 7579.
To close your PEP account early, contact the service centre on 0860 900 500 or pep@tenacityinc.co.za for your settlement amount. You can ask to end the agreement immediately or on a future settlement date, and then pay the total owed.
Choosing the right PEP route
PEP splits its contact lines by department rather than running everything through one switchboard. Calling the wrong line usually means being transferred or asked to call back, so it is worth picking the right one first time.
If your query does not obviously match one of the lines above, start with the PEP Customer Care Line on 0860 737 000 and ask to be routed; for anything about your PEP Account, use 0860 900 500. Note the reference number before the transfer, so it is not lost if the call drops.
Self-service options before you call
- WhatsApp on 060 070 2320 or USSD *120*3012# for your balance, instalment and credit limit increases, without waiting in a phone queue.
- Email to pep@tenacityinc.co.za, which gives you a written record of what you asked and when.
- The official PEP store finder, for contact hours and the details held for a specific location.
- The official site at pepstores.com, which carries the current customer care details and any online enquiry form.
- Calling outside peak times. Monday mornings and the hour after 17:00 are usually the worst for South African contact centres.
What to have ready before you call
- A clear one line summary of what you need resolved.
- Your account, order or reference number if you already have one.
- The identity document or account holder details, since most South African providers verify who you are before discussing an account.
- Dates, amounts and any error message exactly as it appeared.
- A pen and paper for the reference number. Ask for one every time, because without it a follow up call starts from nothing.
Complaints and escalation
If a first call does not resolve the matter, escalate through the retailer’s customer care line first.
Keep a short written log of each contact: the date, the channel you used, the name of the agent and the reference number. Most retail complaint processes ask for exactly that history, and having it ready is usually the difference between a fast resolution and starting over.
Avoiding fake PEP contact numbers
Contact details for well known South African brands are a common target for impersonation. Numbers that look official appear in search ads, social media replies and cloned websites, and the person answering is not PEP.
- Reach PEP through the official site at pepstores.com rather than through a number in a search advert or a social media reply.
- PEP will never ask you for your full card number, PIN, CVV, online banking password or a one time PIN. Nobody legitimate needs those to help you.
- Treat any caller who creates urgency, asks you to install remote access software, or asks you to move money to a safe account as fraudulent, and end the call.
- If you are unsure whether a call was genuine, hang up and dial the official number yourself rather than calling back a number the caller gave you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the PEP contact number?
For the PEP Account, call 0860 900 500. PEP’s general Customer Care Line is 0860 737 000 (+27 86 073 7000). Confirm it on pepstores.com before relying on it, since numbers are changed from time to time.
How do I check my PEP account balance?
Say “HI” on WhatsApp to 060 070 2320, dial *120*3012#, or call 0860 900 500 and choose the PEP account card option.
How do I get my PEP account statement?
Statements are sent monthly by email or to your phone. For a statement request, call 0860 900 500 or email pep@tenacityinc.co.za.
Can I check my PEP account balance online?
There is no web login for the PEP Account. Use WhatsApp 060 070 2320 or USSD *120*3012#.
How do I close my PEP account?
Call 0860 900 500 or email pep@tenacityinc.co.za for your settlement amount, then pay the total owed.
How do I know a PEP number is genuine?
Check it against the official site at pepstores.com. A number that only appears in a search advert, a social media reply or a third-party directory should not be trusted for anything involving your account, your money or your identity document.
What should I do if nobody resolves my query?
Ask for the complaint reference and the escalation path on your first call, then follow the escalation route described above. Keep the dates, agent names and reference numbers, because every formal complaint process will ask for them.
Can ContactDetails.co.za resolve this for me?
No. We are an independent directory, not PEP, and we have no access to your account. Everything here is a routing aid so that you reach the correct official channel with the right information in hand.
Is there a cost to calling these numbers?
South African 0860 and 0861 numbers are charged at a share-call or standard rate depending on your provider, and 0800 numbers are toll free from a landline. Calls from a mobile are billed at your own operator’s rate, so check your plan if cost matters.
