Tyre and rim claims go to a dedicated Bidvest claims mailbox rather than the general line. Bidvest also publishes actual service standards for complaints, with timeframes you can hold it to, which is unusual enough to be worth knowing before you need them.

Official provider route

Product or service support

Bidvest sells this cover as Tyre and Rim Cover, from a published price of about R109 a month on a month to month basis. It covers damage from road hazards such as potholes, cracks and debris, and the published policy highlights are replacement tyres, specified rim repairs, wheel alignment, wheel balancing and unlimited puncture repairs. Bidvest positions it explicitly as an alternative to claiming on your comprehensive motor policy, and that is the practical value: a tyre or rim claim made here does not go through your comprehensive insurer, so it does not attract that excess or sit on that claims record.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Note the wording of the cover before you claim. Rim repairs are described as specified, so the policy schedule rather than the marketing page determines which rims and which damage qualify, and cover is for damage caused by road hazards rather than for ordinary wear. That distinction matters because a tyre worn below the legal tread limit is a maintenance item, not hazard damage. Have the policy number, the vehicle registration, the date and place of the incident and photographs of the damaged tyre or rim ready, and keep the damaged tyre if you can, since an insurer may want it inspected before authorising a replacement.

Escalation route

If a claim is declined or handled badly, use the Complaints Resolution Department rather than the claims mailbox, and put it in writing, because Bidvest asks for complaints in writing where possible. It undertakes to acknowledge receipt within one business day and gives the department five business days to resolve a complaint where it has all the necessary information, so those are the timeframes to measure it against. If that does not resolve matters, a complaint about the insurer or the claim goes to the National Financial Ombud, whose details Bidvest publishes itself, on 0860 800 900. A complaint about the advice given when the policy was sold goes to the FAIS Ombud on 012 762 5000 instead. Bidvest Insurance Limited is registration 1997/019461/06, a licensed non-life insurer and authorised financial services provider FSP 46395, and it publishes a right to repair position which is relevant if you are told where the work must be done.
