A regional office exists mainly to do the things that cannot be done remotely. That means registration applications for security officers and for security businesses, fingerprint submission, submitting and collecting documents, certificate matters, and lodging a complaint against a security service provider.
Two rules drive most visits here. Every security officer must be registered with the authority as an individual, and every business that provides security services must be registered as well, so an employer cannot register on an officer behalf as a substitute for the officer own registration. Registration also has to be kept current through annual fees, and an officer whose registration has lapsed may not lawfully work. If you are hiring a company or checking on a guard, the registration number is the thing to ask for and to verify.

The authority is a statutory regulator created under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act, not an industry association and not an employer. It cannot resolve a wage or dismissal dispute between a guard and a security company, which belongs with the bargaining council or the CCMA. What it can act on is conduct, registration and compliance with the code of conduct.
