The city is officially Mbombela, but PSiRA still lists this office under Nelspruit, so search for it that way.
There is nowhere else in the province
No counter in Witbank, no counter in Middelburg, none in Secunda, Ermelo, Barberton or Standerton. For a security officer working on a Highveld mine or at a Secunda plant, Nelspruit is a two to three hour drive each way, and the office shuts at four. Treat it as a day, leave early, and confirm by phone first that what you need can actually be done at the counter rather than online.
The province shapes what this office deals with
Mpumalanga security work is dominated by mining, heavy industry and the Kruger corridor: mine site guarding, plant access control, cash escort on the N4, and anti-poaching and reserve protection. Those bring specific PSiRA questions — whether a role needs a particular grade, how an in-house security department registers as opposed to a contractor, and how a firearm-carrying post interacts with a separate firearms competency. The counter can tell you which registration category applies; it cannot issue a firearm competency, which is a SAPS matter under the Firearms Control Act.
Cross-border workers
Nelspruit is close to both Eswatini and Mozambique, and this is the office people use when a security officer is a foreign national. PSiRA registration requires the right to work in South Africa, and an asylum or work permit that has expired will stop a registration or a renewal even when everything else is in order. Take the permit with you and check its date before you travel.
Lapsed versus cancelled
This is the distinction that decides your cost and your paperwork. A lapsed registration is one where annual fees stopped being paid; a cancelled one has been withdrawn. Ask the office which yours is before assuming you simply owe arrears. Working as a security officer without a valid registration is an offence, so do not let it drift, and do not accept an employer’s assurance that they are handling it without seeing your own certificate.
Nobody can speed this up for money
If a person offers to obtain a grade, a certificate or a faster registration for cash, report it.
