Game labels the line for its store card as Game Store Card and RCS Enquiries, and the email address it publishes alongside it does not end in game.co.za. That tells you who actually runs the card: RCS, not Game.

Because RCS holds the account, a Game store cannot see your balance, adjust a debit order or resolve an interest dispute, and the till cannot either. The card is used in Game; the account is administered elsewhere. Send anything in writing to the RCS address rather than to the Game one, because a message to [email protected] about a store card account has to be forwarded before anyone can act on it.
Note how Game prints the store card number on its own page: 0861 0022 33, grouped in an unusual way. It is the ten digit number 0861 002 233. Read it in the normal grouping before you dial, because the published spacing invites a misdial.
Product or service support
Game publishes several separate lines and they are not interchangeable. Online orders go to Game Online Support on 0861 426 333, open 08:00 to 19:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays and closed on Sundays and public holidays. The general customer call centre keeps different hours again, 08:00 to 19:00 on weekdays, 09:00 to 16:00 on Saturdays and 09:00 to 13:00 on Sundays and public holidays, closed on Christmas Day.
The general call centre is published only as a vanity number, 0861 GAME CARE, written out on the page as 0861 4263 2273. Spelled in full that is twelve digits, two more than a South African number carries, because the letters of the word run past the end of the number. Game publishes no plain numeric form of it, so this page does not offer one rather than guess at where it should be cut. For a store card query the RCS number above is the direct route in any event.
Two numbers on that page are not Game. The Game Sure extended warranty is on 0800 333 383 or 0800 004 445, weekdays only until 16:30, and it is a separate product with a separate underwriter. The Vodacom Contracts call centre is listed as 082 111, which is Vodacom own customer care and not a Game department at all, so a cellphone contract taken out in a Game store is a Vodacom matter.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
A store card is a credit facility under the National Credit Act, not a loyalty card. The credit provider has to do an affordability assessment before granting or increasing it, must give you a pre agreement statement and quotation, and must disclose the initiation fee, the monthly service fee and the interest rate. Read those three figures rather than only the minimum monthly payment, because on a store card the service fee alone can make a small balance expensive.
If you want the limit reduced or the facility closed, ask in writing and keep proof, since an open facility can be increased later and a dormant card can still attract a monthly fee.
Escalation route
Raise an account dispute with RCS on the number or email above first, and get a reference. Because RCS is the registered credit provider rather than an outside collection agency, complaints about the account, the interest, a fee or a credit bureau listing sit with the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627 for conduct and lending matters, and with the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900 for a dispute about the account itself.
Keep the two kinds of complaint apart, because they go to different places. A faulty appliance bought on the card is a goods complaint for Game as the retailer, and that route ends at the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud on 0860 000 272. The credit agreement that paid for it is a separate matter. Game head office, trading as Massdiscounters, is at Massmart House, 16 Peltier Drive, Sunninghill Extension 6, Sandton 2157, which is the address for formal written correspondence to the retailer.
