Khumani Iron Ore Mine has a direct telephone number, which is unusual for a South African mine. It is published not by the operator but by one of the operator two parent companies, and knowing that is the key to reaching it.

Official contact channels

The mine is operated by Assmang, a joint venture owned equally by African Rainbow Minerals and Assore. That ownership split has a practical consequence: Assmang own website at assmang.co.za currently serves nothing but a website under construction placeholder, so it cannot be used to check anything. ARM site is the working source, and it is where the mine number above is published.

One number on ARM contact page is malformed. An entry printed as +27 (0) 779 1000 is missing digits and cannot connect as written, so it is not reproduced here as a contact. Use the numbers listed above, which are complete.

What this organisation provides

Khumani is an iron ore operation in the Northern Cape, where the 053 dialling code places it. It sits within ARM Ferrous division, and each of those operations publishes its own number, which is genuinely useful if you have been given the wrong one.

ARM Platinum operations publish theirs separately again, covering Two Rivers Platinum on 013 230 2800, Nkomati Nickel on 013 712 8200, Modikwa Platinum on 013 230 2000 and Bokoni Platinum on 015 620 0001. Beeshoek and Khumani are both iron ore and both on 053 codes, so check the middle digits rather than assuming.

Address and operating information

ARM publishes no street address for the mine itself and no visitor entrance, which is normal for an operating iron ore mine: access is controlled and arranged in advance for a specific gate. Written correspondence goes to the Sandton corporate address above. ARM registration number is 1933/004580/06 and its ISIN is ZAE 000054045, which are the identifiers to quote in formal correspondence.

Support and escalation routes

If you are a supplier rather than a member of the public, ARM publishes a vendor registration form on its contact page and that is the correct entry point. An unsolicited approach to a mine directly will normally be redirected to that process, and being registered is usually a precondition for being invited to quote. Community and social investment enquiries go to the corporate social investment address rather than to the mine.

Safety is not a company complaint. An unsafe working condition at a mine is reported to the Mine Health and Safety Inspectorate at the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, and it is the Inspectorate rather than the employer that investigates. The regional office of that department is also the route for questions about mining rights, environmental authorisations and a mine social and labour plan commitments, none of which the mine switchboard will resolve.

Several contacts on ARM page are individual staff mailboxes for investor relations, media and other functions. They are not reproduced here, because a named person address stops working when that person moves on, whereas the role addresses above do not.
