21st Century is a South African remuneration, reward and people consultancy founded in 1997 and based in Rosebank, Johannesburg. Note that it is not the same business as 21st Century Funerals, which shares the name and nothing else.
Official contact channels
- Head office, Gauteng: 011 447 0306
- Email: [email protected]
- Address: 12 Bolton Road, corner Sussex, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2132
- Postal: PO Box 973, Saxonwold, Johannesburg, 2132
- Coastal regions are covered by a dedicated general manager, reachable through head office
The enquiry form on the company site asks which area you are in, offering Greater Johannesburg, Tshwane, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal among others. Answering that accurately routes you to the right consultant rather than to the head office switchboard.
What this organisation provides
- Remuneration and reward consulting, including pay structures and benchmarking
- Job architecture and job evaluation
- Executive remuneration and governance advice, including global executive reward
- Organisational development, change, people and talent consulting
- Employee value proposition work, climate and perception surveys, recognition schemes and retention strategies
- Reward analytics and training
The firm also licenses its own systems rather than only selling consulting hours, among them a job evaluation system, a long-term incentive valuator, an expatriate tool and a personal development analysis instrument. If you are buying a tool rather than a project, say so at the outset, because they are quoted differently.
Address and operating information
- Head office in Rosebank, between Oxford Road and Jan Smuts Avenue
- About a five minute walk from Rosebank Gautrain station, and a short drive from the M1 Glenhove offramp
- Established in 1997
- A B-BBEE Level 1 management consultancy
- An affiliate of the GECN network, giving access to expertise in other markets
- Its published client base runs to more than 3,800 organisations, including a large share of JSE-listed companies, government and parastatals
The public sector and parastatal work matters if you are procuring. A consultancy already used to National Treasury and public entity remuneration frameworks will need less briefing than one that has only worked in listed companies.
Support and escalation routes
- New business and general enquiries: 011 447 0306 or [email protected]
- Executive pay disclosure and governance work is shaped by King IV and, for listed companies, JSE listing requirements
- Remuneration policy votes at annual general meetings are a shareholder matter rather than a consultancy one
- Individual pay disputes between an employer and an employee go to a bargaining council or the CCMA, not to a remuneration consultancy
- Tax treatment of a remuneration structure is ultimately a matter for SARS
Keep the advisory and the statutory apart. A consultancy can design a pay structure, but it cannot rule on whether SARS will accept its tax treatment or whether an employee has an unfair labour practice claim. Get the design and the ruling from different places.
