DON’T WASTE is a commercial waste management company founded in South Africa in 1994 and now trading internationally as the Don’t Waste Group. It is a business-to-business operator – it services shopping centres, offices and industrial sites rather than collecting household bins, which municipalities do.
Its old South African domain, dontwaste.co.za, now redirects to dontwastegroup.com. That matters because several business directories still carry the company at an Umgeni Road address on a 031 309 9426 number. The company’s own site gives a different address and a different number, and the details below are the ones it publishes today.
Official contact channels
- Africa head office: 031 309 9400, published as +27 (0)31 309 9400.
- Africa email: [email protected]
- Global enquiries: [email protected]
- An enquiry form on the contact page asks for your region, province or city, company name and the service you are interested in.
One inconsistency to be aware of if you need the international offices. The contact block gives the Europe and UK number as +44 20 8736 4578, while the footer of the same page gives +44 20 8736 2578. The two differ by one digit and the company publishes both, so use the African office above for South African business rather than guessing which UK number is current. The Asia Pacific office is published as +64 9 886 6861.
What this organisation provides
- Commercial waste collection and site services, with staff placed on client sites to run waste areas.
- Waste administration, reporting and management – the record keeping a business needs to prove what it generated and where it went.
- Recycling and waste brokering, matching recoverable material to buyers.
- Consultancy services and training.
- A property technology platform covering tenant billing and management, aimed at landlords recovering waste costs from tenants.
If you are a householder wanting a bin collected, a skip for a home renovation, or a missed municipal collection resolved, this is not the company to call. Domestic refuse removal is a municipal function and goes to your local council.
Address and operating information
- Africa head office: 199-203 Peter Mokaba Road, Morningside, Durban, 4001
- Hours: Monday to Saturday, 09:00 – 18:00. Saturday cover is unusual for a head office and reflects the operational side of the business.
- Europe office: Catalyst House, 720 Centennial Court, Centennial Park, Elstree, Hertfordshire WD6 3SY, United Kingdom.
- No branch-level numbers are published for other South African cities; the Durban head office number is the published route.
Support and escalation routes
- Service problems on a contract go to the account manager first, then to the Africa head office number and mailbox above.
- Waste handling is licensed activity in South Africa. The National Environmental Management: Waste Act governs how waste is stored, transported, treated and disposed of, and many waste activities require a licence. A business generating waste keeps legal responsibility for it, so ask any contractor for its licence and its safe disposal certificates.
- Illegal dumping, unlicensed disposal or a contractor tipping waste where it should not is reported to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment and its Environmental Management Inspectorate, commonly known as the Green Scorpions.
- Municipal waste bylaws are enforced by the local council, which is also the route for problems with domestic collection.
- Hazardous and healthcare waste carries separate handling and manifest requirements; a generator that cannot produce a disposal trail can be held liable regardless of who was contracted.
- Ordinary commercial disputes over billing are contractual. If the client is a small business, an unresolved complaint about services can go to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud on 0860 000 272.
