Lancet Laboratories handles billing through an Accounts Receivable department that is separate from the labs themselves. It has its own call centre number and its own hours, so a billing query does not go to the main Lancet line.
Official provider route
- Accounts call centre, including card payments by phone: 011 358 0875, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00
- Lancet main number: 0861 526 238, which the company writes as 0861 LANCET
- Accounts enquiries mailbox: service@lancet.co.za
- A dedicated accounts contact form on the Lancet accounts page, which asks for your account number and reference as well as your ID number
- Head office: 4 Cedar Street, Richmond, Johannesburg, 2092
Have the account number and the reference from your statement ready before you call. The Accounts Receivable team works from the account record, not from your name.
How to pay a Lancet account
- EasyPay. Your EasyPay reference code is printed on the front of your Lancet statement
- PayFast, through pay request buttons Lancet sends directly to you
- SnapScan, using the codes added to patient account statements
- Credit card, at most Lancet branches or over the phone on 011 358 0875
- EFT. Take the banking details from your own statement or the guidelines on the Lancet accounts page, not from a third party. Medical account payment redirection is a known fraud, so never use banking details sent to you in an unexpected email
What the accounts department covers
- Billing for services rendered to patients
- Submission of claims to medical schemes and administrators
- Receipting of payments and allocating them to patient accounts
- The department is organised into billing, a contact centre, a banking and cash office, customer complaints and communications, and support
- Lancet states its Accounts Receivable function is ISO 9001 compliant and regulated by the HPCSA and the NPG
If your medical scheme has not paid
- Check first whether the claim was submitted and rejected, or never submitted. The accounts call centre can tell you which, and the answer decides who you chase
- A rejected claim is usually a scheme matter, so take the rejection reason to your scheme. An unsubmitted claim is a Lancet matter
- Keep the account number, the date of the test and the referring doctor to hand, since claims are matched on those
