What Lancet does
Lancet Laboratories is a private pathology group. Samples come from doctors, clinics and its own depots, are processed in its laboratories, and the results go back to the referring practitioner. The disciplines it lists run from allergy, chemistry and haematology through cytology, histology and microbiology to molecular pathology, virology, cytogenetics, a TB laboratory and veterinary pathology, alongside occupational health services and parentage testing.
It also publishes patient information, a guide to what a pathologist does, self-collection kit information, and guidelines for specific tests, all of which answer a fair number of the questions that otherwise end up on the call centre queue.
Doctors and corporate clients
Practitioners register for the Path Portal on lancet.co.za, which is restricted to doctors and is where results, academic updates and CPD-accredited webinars sit. Occupational health and corporate service enquiries, including workplace testing programmes, go to 011 589 5421 rather than the patient line.
